“We would be taking up this CUHP issue with the Chief Minister when he will be here during winter session next week. There are also many other problems of the traders which have also been included in agenda” he said.
CUHP was allotted to this state in the year 2007 but it still lacks a permanent campus and students are facing brunt of it. Congress and BJP kept struggling to take this campus to choice of their areas which has stalled the progress of this varsity.
Congress tried to bring it in Dharamshala while BJP had tried to take it to Dehra. Temporary campus of this premier institute is running in Shahpur area. Hence, it has become an issue for three constituencies now.
President of hoteliers association Ashwani Bamba said that they are also going to take up this issue with the BJP govt. “We will also ask govt. to provide basic infrastructure to this hill town to boost tourism activities in the area. An institute like CUHP will definitely add to the foot fall in this hill destination” he said.
A non-political outfit has come up in Shahpur area which includes people running home stays for students, eateries, milk suppliers, cleaners, shop keepers all those people who got benefited with the presence of around 4,000 students. “We will be taking up this issue with the BJP govt. and will demand justice for the people of this area” said Ashish Patial, president of Sangharsh Samiti for CUHP in Shahpur.
Shahpur, Sihun, Kyari, Manjhgran, Bhanala are some of the villages where people have erected buildings taking loans from the banks to make rented accommodations for students and teachers, he said.
Congress government had earmarked a land in Dharamshala at Jadrangal village but it is awaiting forest clearances yet. Another site in Dehra has been transferred in the name of varsity. Temporary classes have already started here.
